Synopsis

In the northwest desert where countless prosperous dynasties have flourished and fallen, there is rumour of a buried treasure of unbelievable riches. A group of mysterious guardians have kept the map to the location safe, until a fierce rivalry erupts. A notorious international crime group, The Company, hunts down the map keepers and before they manage to secure it, the keeper passes the map to a young chivalrous man named Ciao Fei (Jay Chou). Ciao Fei is forced to give up the map to save the life of his mentor’s daughter Lan Ting (Lin Chi Ling). Teaming up with archaeologist Hua Ding Bang and Lan Ting, they embark on a dangerous journey to recover the map and fight to protect the ancient treasure.

I must start by saying that this is such a terrible movie. The plot was just ridicilous, and the terrible acting didn’t help the movie cause either.

While pairing up with Lin Chiling might rub off some credibility to Jay Chou’s stoic acting, as much good looking the dude is, his acting can’t save his life.

Furthermore it was just painful to watch the half-baked chemistry between the two.

There was just too many unnecessary scenes that just prolong my torture, and I nearly walked out of the theater, but stay I must for this review.

Basically the film is about a treasure hunt, but with five writers at the helm, the central plot just has too many loose ends, the various subplots doesn’t intertwine and make sense.

This is a terrible effort, and it showed. What a flop.
