The Expendables

Synopsis

Fearless Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is leader of a tight-knit band of men – Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), ex-SAS and skilled with any bladed weapon; Yin Yang (Jet Li), a close combat master; Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), a long-barrel weapons specialist; Toll Road (Randy Couture), a skilled demolitions expert; and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), a veteran in precision sniping. When the mysterious Church offers Barney a job no one else would take, the team embark on what appears to be a routine mission: overthrow General Gaza (David Zayas), the murderous dictator of the small island country of Vilena. There, Barney and Christmas meet Sandra (Giselle Itie), a local freedom fighter with a dark secret. They also learn the true enemy – rogue ex-CIA operative James Monroe (Eric Roberts) and his henchman Paine (Steve Austin). When things go wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave Sandra for dead. Haunted by this failure, they return to Vilena to finish the job he started.

The Trailer

The Review

It’s goes to show olden is golden, as these 80′s action stars has their last hurrah so to say.

I was expecting a really bad cheesy movie, but it turned out to be an excellent cheesy movie instead.

One wonders how Stallone managed to win an Oscar, his one and only for Rocky, and this latest production will tell you why.

He directed and written it this film. So looks can be deceiving, behind that bruiser of a look is a master artist and performer.

Aside from Rambo, the legendary cast gel really well, however the downside, everyone is vying for a more screen-time.

I felt here a certain right balance to this movie. The plot, action, character development goes well hand-in-hand.

It’s like the good old 80′s action is back, upgraded and updated in 2010.

Don’t miss this one, young or old, you’ll be entertained.

The Good

  • Lots of carnage, I lost on the body-count
  • The ending works out for a sequel possibly

The Bad

  • Too much focus on the damsel-in-distress. Who is she anyway, we don’t care!
