The Review
I’m growing to love the body of action movies from Thailand, and this one, Raging Phoenix is becoming one of my firm favorite.
Although not a martial arts classic, the movie best displays feminism power at its best.
I would say it’s a mix of girl fighting film and a light comedy.
The movie starts off slow, but after the part where JeeJa Yanin character was nearly kidnapped from the evil Jaguar Gang, the pace gets better.
After being saved, JeeJa Yanin’s endearing character became a marital arts protege of the Meyraiyuth gang, the group which saved her, and with them, each with their own individual reasons, they tries to stop the Jaguar gang of kidnappers from future abductions.
I wasn’t surprised to know that JeeJa Yanin does her own stunts in her films. You really should stay for the credit roll as you can watch the reels of stunts which took place, and the injuries sustained by the lead star on-screen.
JeeJa Yanin has a physical presence, and her drunken styles of martial arts, cum Muay Thai, cum hip-hop break dancing moves when fighting was really entertaining.
Do take note of the bad heroine, Roongtawan Jindasing, the body building champion, who matched JeeJa Yanin screen presence.
Overall the movie has strong action sequences, albeit predictable story-line of a typical kidnapping plot turns out fine, well it was an enjoyable film.
The Good
- Fight scenes is top-notch
- Jeeja Yanin is just too adorable on-screen
- The good guys have hilariously cute but offensive names
The Bad
- Ending a bit dodgy
- Movie lacking chemistry
- Jeeja Yanin character can be slightly annoying at times
