The Trailer
The Review
Planet 51 is all about alien phobia. In this case, the humans are the alien.
As cute as the movie was, especially brilliant in the technical aspect of the animation graphics department, the movie will be entertaining enough for kids, but I don’t think it will impress the grown-ups.
It’s failure is that it has a bland storyline, many of the sequences seems forced and desperate to save the movie which lacks emotion.
The animation relies to much of the references it has to classics such Star Wars. Even the characters seems like a total rip-off from other animations, such as the robot-dog, Rover, is a total clone of EVE from Wall.E.
Yes the characters are funny, but they are forgettable.
This is a great kids film, but for the adults, just bear with it.
The Good
- Humour is seamless
- Corner-cutting animation
- The voices were well cast
The Bad
- Characters are cliché stereotypes
- Decent script, but could be better
- Has couple of objectionable non-family orientated references
