The Trailer

The Review

“My One and Only” is a dramatization of George Hamilton’s early life and relationship with his mother. George Hamilton is an American film and television actor by the way.

Basically this is a family drama movie that has no car chases, explosions, killings, drugs or sex nor foul language. Thus its flop status at the box office, but still it is certainly is better than most of the trash that’s been released thus far this year

The entire movie has plenty of car shots, that was the premise of the movie, which is a road film.

A band of family, mother Ann Devereaux (Renee Zelweger) and two sons George (Logan Lerman) and Robbie (Mark Rendall) was on the road, as Ann was on the search for a new husband to take care of her and her two boys after finding her philandering husband, Dan Devereaux (Kevin Bacon), cheating on her.

The movie is being told from the point of view of the youngest son, George, and the narrator tells of what he thinks about his mother, his family relations, and the trip.

You could say there has been many stories like this, and I as the audience probably know what to expect of the end. Yes it has a tepid ending, the film is not terribly funny, while it’s not terribly bad either.

The Good

  • Has great one-liners
  • Dialogue is nitwitty
  • Depiction of lecherous men was funny

The Bad

  • Dialog was uninspiring at most
  • Wish Kevin Bacon had more screen time
  • Relied too much on its road movie charm
  • Familiar pattern scenes repeating itself once too many in the movie
