The Review
Gokusen: The Movie is based on a Japanese manga, and I believe it’s a movie made to end its third season with a bang.
You can tell so as most of the students in the movie was from Season 3 of the highly popular television drama series.
The movie in a way gave closure to the loopholes for the drama series, and it would be helpful if you have seen the TV series.
Still as a stand-alone movie, it’s like a two hour episode of a TV show where you’ll begin to love the character, a passionate teacher with a hidden double life who tries to impart some important life lessons to her students.
Yamaguchi Kumiko or Yankumi although a teacher, she’s no pushover. When things get rough, her gangster style background steps in and resolve the matter with comedic outcome along the way.
It has of course over the top exaggerated comedy, but that’s typical of any Manga material which is of Kawaii cuteness.
Although the producers tries to rope in more new fans with this production, Gokusen the movie I believe was made strictly for their fans.
The Good
- Plenty of comedy
- The music and sound effects was on cue perfectly
- The girls would love the handsome hunk in the movie, plenty of them
The Bad
- The storyline nothing to rave about
- Typical overused genre of teacher tries to reform bad students
- The Manga book feel didn’t quite totally translate on-screen. There’s a certain lacking to it
