The TrailerThe Review‘Beyond a Reasonable Doubt’ is a remake of the 1956 film noir thriller of the same name. Local Shreveport La. investigative reporter C. J Nicholas (Jesse Metcalfe) is trying to unravel a corrupt district attorney, Martin Hunter (Michael Douglas). Nicholas believes that Hunter has been planting DNA evidences at the crime scenes after the crimes were committed, in order to get his conviction. The shrewd Nicholas then implicates himself as bait in a murder he didn’t commit so as to set-up Hunter, and catch him in the act. But the witness and evidence that was essential in the set-up ended up dead and burned respectively, and Nicholas now has to rely on his girlfriend Ella Crystal (Amber Tamblyn), who just happens to be Hunter’s assistant for help. Cast wise Michael Douglas gave a solid performance, but the supporting cast was forgettable. Jesse Metcalfe for me was nothing more than a pretty face in the film. The film was poorly executed with plenty of the scenes seemed forced. Although it was somewhat suspenseful, it reminds me of a B-movie or your afternoon TV thriller. The production seems low budget, and it’s a shame the screenplay couldn’t adapt the great crime story. There was just too many clichés with corny dialogues. It needs a better polished script and directing. The Good
