The Review

An Education is a movie based based on Lynn Barber’s autobiographical memoir, and the adaptation from book to screenplay in my opinion was a success.

Set in the swinging sixties London, teenager Jenny Miller (Carey Mulligan) is 16 going on 17, and on target for a place at Oxford university.

She is intelligent, quick-witted, self-assured but naive. Jenny falls and enters an affair with a fellow more than twice her age, David Goldman (Peter Sarsgaard) who impresses her with his sports car, and glamorous lifestyle.

Jenny succumbs and accepts his marriage proposal and dropped out of school to the dismay of many.

This is a movie about a girl’s coming-of-age on the verge of major changes, where the abrupt but exciting relationship she chose is as much an education as is Jenny’s schooling.

Carey Mulligan played the lead role convincingly, to think she’s 23 years old at the time of filming.

This is a film that offers the insight into the memoir of someone youth.
