71 Into The Fire

Synopsis

Based on the true story, 71 students fought hundreds of North Korean soldiers in front of a Pohang girls’ middle school during the Korean War on June 25, 1950. A letter was found from one of the 71 deceased soldiers which inspired the movie. Kap-jo (Kwon Sang-Woo) was formerly a student but was convicted of murder. While serving his sentence he volunteers to fight as a soldier.

The Trailer

The Review

I can’t help but come to a conclusion that ’71: Into the Fire’ is a K-Pop production disguised as a war movie. The androgenous looking cast I reckon would make any young girl squeal in excitement.

Still it was a credible film with a story to tell. It depicts how war ravages countries.

Action wise, it has some excellent firefight. Although on a small-scale, it adds more realism to the plot.

At the end of the movie, you’ll discover that the enemy is not what we’ve been told to fear and hate. Instead you’ll look at the enemy in a whole new perspective.

The Good

  • Excellent retelling of the Korean War, with flair

The Bad

  • The score was lame, it nearly made me doze off
  • Stiff acting, lacks range of emotion
